Phnom Krom

Enjoy the Sunset 140 meters above Tonle Sap.

Lovely scenery we can walk to the top in around 20 minutes, so it’s a moderate climb for the slightly fit !

The most important point is that this are few people truly off beaten track.

If you come with me, we should be able to enjoy with few  other people to disturb you at all.

When we get to the top we can see and enjoy the sunset in peace and quiet away from the crowds and looking out over Lake Tonle Sap, and the people, the houses and a wide expanse of  rice fields the views are fantastic.

Phnom Krom ប្រាសាទភ្នំក្រោម is one of 3 Hilltop Temples built by the 4th King of the Angkor, Yasovarman I ព្រះបាទយសោវរ្ម័នទី១ who ruled Cambodia from about 889 to 910 CE.

Located around 12km southwest of Siem Reap city and it takes us around 20 minutes by car, and another 15-20 minutes to climb the steps to temple towers which are more than 120 meters above the surrounding plains and overlooking the great lake Tonle Sap ទន្លេសាប. Here you can take your time off the beaten track and away from the crowds to enjoy a special sunset over the rice fields with an panoramic views of the area, and Tonle Sap.

This crumbling temple on a rocky hill is one of the earliest relics of Angkor History, built around the time Yasovarman moved the capital from the nearby Hariharalaya(Rolous) to Yashodharkpura(Angkor). Yasovarman is sometimes considered the last ruler of Cambodia before the Khmer empire was fully established.
