Siem Reap is one the province of the 25 provinces of Cambodia. Siem Reap mean defeats of Siam ( Thailand had lose their war in Siem Reap ) by the king Ang Chan in 1516-1566. Siem Reap covered the area of 10,299 square kilometers divided to 12 districts, 100 communes and 907 villages with 1 million population. Siem Reap bordered Oddar Meanchey to the north, Preah Vihear and Kompong Thom to the east, Battambang to the south and Banteay Meanchey to the west. The city also name Siem Reap. Siem Reap is number 10 largest province in Cambodia.

Siem Reap , Battambang and Sisophon the Cambodian major city was under the Ayutthaya King ( Thailand ) in those days they called Nakhorn Siam ( Siam’s city ). Those three city inner to Cambodia in the year 1795-1907 when they ceded to French Indochina. 

Siem Reap just a little village when french explorer Henri Mouhot rediscovered Angkor Wat in 19 century and after the French school of the Far East ( EFEO )founded Bayon which is around 3km from angkor Wat then this school EFEO took responsibility for clearing and restoring the whole site. In the same year the first western tourists arrived in Angkor in total around 200 visitors in three months. Angkor had been rescued from the jungle and was assuming its place in the modern world. 

With the acquisition by the french in 1907 following a Franco-Siamese treaty Siem Reap began to grow. The Grand Hotel D’Angkor was build in middle 1920 and opened in 1932 and the temples of Angkor became one of Asia’s leading draw until the late 1960. The civil war keep tourists away until the Khmer Rouges leader Pol Pot dead in 1998. Actually Khmer Rouge regime has collapsed in the year 1979 but not totally 100% yet because they still have power in some area so they keep attacked the ordinary people so in the mean time from 1979-1990 Cambodia no security so at evening time no one going out from their village especially at night time there are no traffic at all because Khmer Rouge keep stealing and rob people when they travel at night or late evening. Siem Reap and the whole Cambodia have totally peaceful from Pol Pot dead and Khmer Rouge has and agreement to join the new government in 1991 so we start have peace then in 1993 Cambodia supported by United nation to help us for our first elections then they bring us peace until today so nowadays Siem Reap becomes number one tourists city in Cambodia and Angkor Wat.

Siem Reap province right now become the top ten world destinations in the world so there are millions of visitors visit Siem Reap. The most famous place in Siem Reap is angkor park covered the area of 400 square kilometers so tourists can enjoy their holiday with full history and culture and beside angkor park clients can visit many remote temples such as Banteay Srei , Beng Mealea, Koh Ker group … etc or tourists can go to see the secrets mountain of Kulen ( the places where king of Khmer empire went for their meditation during Angkor period ). Siem Reap night life people can enjoy night market , pup street or watch Cambodian traditional performance…etc.
