Beng mealea
A relaxing hour’s ride for 65km drive north east of Siem Reap to Prasat Beng Mealea which was a strikingly similar floorplan to Angkor Wat but which has been mostly reclaimed by the Jungle, and therefore usually called – The Great Jungle Temple.
Far from the worst of the Angkor crowds, you can wander around in relative peace without being bustled by other tourists.
Beng Mealea has some reputation for being the set of movies like Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones, but all we know is that the large wooden walkway was originally constructed for the filming of Two Brothers (2004), a movie set in French Indochina in the 1920s and about Two infant tiger cubs, separated from their parents and each other.
Beng Mealea has a large baray to the east and some atmospheric satellite temples such as Prasat Chrey.
